“Are you sure this is what you want?”

“Edward, I love you. I want to stay with you.”

With a sigh of resignation, Edward mentally prepared himself to bite me, to inflict upon me what he considered to be a curse. As he looked down upon me, I gave him an encouraging smile.

“Please. Do it now.”

I closed my eyes and heard Edward move around the room.

“You know, it wouldn’t be a letdown if you decided you didn’t want to do this. No one would hold it against you if you didn’t want to change.”

“Look, all of your family is fine with this. Even Rosalie came around.”

“And Jacob?”

I looked away, trying to surpress the faint feeling of shame. I remembered his face as he watched from the back at my wedding. To strengthen my resolve, I replaced that image with the one where Jacob was talking to a pretty girl from La Push. He could move on, maybe even imprint. He always was better at adapting than I was.

“You know it’s not an issue. Besides, all the other demands have been fulfilled. I’m even driving that stupid car you bought me.”

Thinking of all the other demands reminded me of my only other demand. I flushed a deep red as Edward gave that little half-smile that I loved, obviously noticing where my thoughts were.

“Are you ready to do this?”

“Yes,” I breathed out, steeling myself for the pain to come. I closed my eyes as his fangs came down on my skin.

The fire! It burned over every inch of my body. I slipped out of consciousness. The pain never seemed to end. After what seemed like an eternity, the pain ended.

“Welcome to the family, love.”

And with that, his cold lips came down to meet mine.
